Israel confirmed 33,622 new Covid cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active patients to 253,103The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday warned United States citizens of traveling to Israel due to a “very high level” of Covid in the Jewish state.“If you must travel to Israel, make sure you are fully vaccinated before travel,” the CDC stated.
At the average citizen level, things here are kind of grim but mostly for the unvaccinated. This includes most children, which is why it’s big news and a big panic, not just grumbling about crazy religious people, hippies taking horse medicine, and pseudo libertarians who suddenly don’t believe in being intelligent.
Though most adults in Israel got vaccinated, and many people got their children vaccinated as soon as they could, it wasn’t soon enough to prevent the spread of omicron. It’s less often fatal, but that is little comfort to parents and the caregivers of those who could not take the vaccine for medical reasons. The statistics are irrelevant when it’s your loved one.
So even some of us who were somewhat easier going in the post vaccination celebration are being more careful. We’re not even visiting close friends and family even if we’ve all been vaccinated because we don’t even want to take the small risk of a breakthrough infection harming or taking out someone we love. We only go out to work or when it is absolutely necessary. It’s like lockdown without actually being on lockdown, but with most businesses open.
